Henderson Whiplash Sufferers Find Relief Through Chiropractic Care Including Spinal Adjustments

By Guy Lobdell

The human spine is complex, consisting of thirty-three small bones. Twenty-four are separated and those in the lower spine are fused. The top seven are located in the neck. They are subject to damage in a car crash. A prominent Las Vegas chiropractor will attest to the fact that a whiplash injury is often disabling.

These bones are hollow and the vulnerable spinal cord and its nerve roots are protected by them. In a car crash, the head is abruptly jerked forward and back, injuring the passenger much as a baby is injured when shaken. This is referred to as a whiplash injury.

It is a wise decision to turn to chiropractic care for your recovery from the most excessive pain. During the first appointment a full assessment of your spine is done. It is examined and an x-ray may be taken. You will be asked questions about the accident and how severe the pain feels.

After the exam, which may include checking your reflexes and doing a range-of motion test, the harm can be evaluated. In a whiplash incident the whole spine is checked with a focus placed on the neck. Then a care plan will be devised.

Your care plan may differ from one set up for someone with a similar injury. It depends on your age and general health. In the majority of cases a series of spinal adjustments are considered to be the best option.

The cervical vertebrae may have been jostled out of place during the collision. When that happens they can press against one or more of the nerve roots. That may be the source of incredible pain.

Correcting the subluxation, or misalignment, can be compared to how orthodonture slowly moves teeth into correct placement in the mouth. It is a gradual process. Your pain is lessened as the pressure on the nerve root is relieved.

Of course, each person responds at a different rate. As your pain begins to subside, mild exercises may be added to your program. Chiropractic care is attuned to your specific needs in the best way possible.
