Citizens Of Woodland Hills, CA Back Pain Reduction Achieved Naturally With Chiropractic Therapy

By Carla Bergoba

There are many possible causes of back pain. It may be a misalignment of a spinal vertebrae pressing against a nerve root. It may also be sore muscles, a torn ligament or other injury to the soft tissue. In the office of a Woodland Hills CA Chiropractor, an exam will be conducted to determine the reason.

A majority of backaches occur in the lower back. Any part of the spinal column may be subject to pain, however. It may be acute or a dull ache. It may occur intermittently or continuously. When pain lasts over an extended period of time, it is considered chronic.

If the pain is accompanied by weakness or numbness in the extremities, there may be nerve damage. Between the vertebrae, which are the small hollow bones encasing the spinal cord, there are spongy discs that keep the bones from rubbing against each other. Backaches are common, however, they are not usually disabling.

It is always best not to ignore pain as it is happening to alert you to a problem. When you meet with the chiropractor you will be examined physically, asked about your medical history and perform some range of motion tests. An x-ray is usually part of the exam. This allows the chiropractor to come to a conclusion as to what care plan will be suitable for your condition.

When a disc is herniated, part of it will bulge out between two of the vertebrae. The care plan may include manual adjustments to re-align the vertebrae, massage and mild exercises designed specifically for each individual. These are for the individual to do at home between office visits.

Each person responds differently. Some feel a reduction in pain after a few adjustments. More often, it takes a bit longer. It depends on the general health of the individual and his or her age. As the pain subsides, the sufferer can resume normal activities.
