By Mark Butler

Often called Reiki treatments, but I like to leave the treatments to the medical professionals. As Hippocrates said, "The physician treats, but nature heals". Nature is a part of the universe. A treatment session is a time when your mind, body and spirit receive universal energy for repairing, building and strengthening. All the while, you are doing nothing more then lying back and enjoying the relaxing energy. Reiki healing Calistoga, CA sessions are a peaceful healing break from the often-hectic pace of life.

The word Reiki is made up of two smaller words: "Rei" means Universal spirit energy, while "ki" represents your personal spirit energy. The concept of "ki" in Japanese, "chi" in Chinese, "prana" in the Indian Hindu religion. "Rei" is key to the teachings of Dr. Usui as is refers to the life force that animates, gives life to all form.

Reiki is a spiritual and medical practice developed by a Japanese Buddhist in 1922 by the name of Mikao Usui. As a noun it signifies the universal energy that is present within each of us. Reiki healers transfer energy through their hands to their patients which can help to facilitate healing from a wide array of diseases and conditions. There are two main branches of healing, Traditional Japanese Healing, and Western Reiki.

There are a few different schools of thought that different Reiki healers ascribe to which cause differences in different healer's techniques. Traditional Japanese Reiki is shrouded in much mystery with Japanese Reiki healers often revealing very little of their techniques to the outside world. Japanese Reiki healers focus more on their breathing techniques than western Reiki healers tend to.

Reiki being universal energy goes to where your greatest need is in mind, body or spirit. This unique form of universal energy called Reikitravels to the center of the cells, filling them with balance and surrounding all with harmony.

As the Shihan or practitioner scans over the body, their hands stop over any area where inharmonic vibrations are notice and remain there until balance is restored. The Shihan's or practitioner's hands either gently rest on noninvasive areas of your body, or are held a few inches away -- either way the energy flows to where it is needed. At the beginning and end of the session an aura cleansing, or other Japanese technique is used to balance and brush away all inharmonic vibrations (blocks), and your energy field (aura) is cleansed and adjusted.

However, the reduction of stress is not the only reason for healing. It sends off a burst of positive energy that contributes to the process of healing. Positive energy drives out negative energy. This helps to heal the emotions and spirit. Positive energy can wash away negative energy to help encourage healing vibrations.

Under the therapy, the Reiki expert puts the subject in a low illuminated room for bringing in concentration and focus, to give relaxed setting. At many instances soft music and perfumes are used for achieving quick relaxation. The process tends to work best when there is increased relaxation. For centuries this concept has been beneficial for healing. You should approach it with an open mind, as well as a willing body when you want to get the best results. Keep in mind that any negative resistance can and will cause problems.
