Some Individuals Pursue Reiki Services In San Diego

By Allyson Burke

Reiki, an ancient Eastern system that brings healing and balance to body, soul and spirit, is believed to reduce stress and promote deep relaxation. To understand Reiki services in San Diego and the use of hand positions for healing, it is important to have at least a basic knowledge of chakras, or life energy forces. Pronounced chock-ruh or shock-ruh, the word is of Sanskrit origin and taken from an ancient Indian word that means "wheel". Those who claim to see chakras report that they look like wheels of colored light that move and spin at varying speeds, according to the energy level of the patient.

The body systems of reproduction, circulation, sensory perception, secretion, breathing, and digestion are all thought to be influenced by six different chakras. Additionally, the brain and body share another chakra, for a total of seven. Each corresponds to a specific body organ, and the various chakras are situated at the top of the head, solar plexus, base of the pelvis, heart, navel, throat, and forehead.

Chakras play a crucial role in Reiki as they do in almost all healing arts. Deficiencies in chakras are thought to point to illnesses in the area of the body with which that particular chakra is associated. To help patients achieve optimum health, Reiki seeks to balance, open, and clear these chakras, bringing well-being and healing to the client.

At the bottom of the pelvis is the root chakra, which affects the adrenal glands, kidneys, legs, large intestines and spinal column. This chakra keeps patients in touch with their physical world, and when balanced, promotes a normal desire for shelter, food, and life in general. When imbalanced, the person may feel victimized, paranoid, selfish, or even become violent.

The naval chakra, also referred to as the sacral chakra, influences the bladder, spleen, testicles, ovaries, and reproductive system. If it is balanced, it promotes healthy emotions and sexuality, and increases a person's natural creativity. If it is not balanced, reproductive disorders may develop, or the person may become addicted to food or sex, or feel confused or jealous.

The solar plexus chakra, also frequently referred to by holistic practitioners as the seat of power, affects the intellect. When in balance, it can help one realize his or her dreams and hopes. In addition, it relates to the gallbladder, liver, pancreas, and stomach.

The heart chakra is a person's emotional center, and connects the physical to the spiritual. It has an effect on the circulatory system, lower lungs, thymus gland, skin, arms, and heart. The throat chakra controls the upper lungs, thyroid gland, throat, vocal cords, and jaw. It is thought to affect one's creativity and ability to properly communicate with others.

The 3rd eye chakra is linked to the pituitary gland and nervous system. It influences the nose, face, eyes, brain, and virtually all the head organs. When properly balanced, it expands visualization, intuition, and enhances visions beyond ordinary sight.

The crown chakra, which is associated with the pineal gland and endocrine system, plays a major role in daily health. Balance in the crown chakra results in true inner peace and helps individuals to connect to their source of spiritual wisdom. Blockages in this chakra are thought to produce fear of death and feelings of loneliness and inferiority. Ultimately, individuals who feel they may benefit from Reiki services in San Diego should seek a qualified holistic practitioner from whom to receive this therapy.
