When all else has failed, surgery can be considered. However, there are certain conditions where surgery is the main form of management. Unfortunately, the benefits of surgery may diminish in the long run. Examples of conditions where surgery is needed include lumbar disc herniation, compression fracture, scoliosis, spinal stenosis among others.

Fifty percent of expectant women experience low back ache in the course of their pregnancy. Some of the risk factors include sitting, standing, forward bending and carrying heavy objects. To reduce the risk of experiencing the same in subsequent pregnancies, expectant women should avoid strain during this period.
