Reiki is a type of alternative medicine that has been on use for many past decades. Palm healing is common term used to describe the type of treatment. During the process of Reiki healing practitioner places his or her hand to the clothed person receiving the treatment believing that the healing power would enter the sick through the hand. Somebody doing the hand placement could either be an ally, a person who has the required experience on the duty. One can also perform the hand placement provided that has the required experience.

The method does not involve any physical application, ingestion or even physical manipulation which is common in other methods. An important point to note about the practice is that it does not operate under the norms of any religious system. The intention of this method during the commencement was to provide self-care especially to the students by simply touching the ailing part of the body.

Diseases cured by the method are infertility, anxiety, neurodegenerative disorders and HIV/AIDs. Those suffering from psychological ailments such as stress are healed. After undergoing many years of pain the use of the procedure may help one return to normality which is the source of joy to oneself and family members at large.

The sleep of a person is greatly improved because of changed attitude in the mind. At the same time it helps in reducing the anxiety which is almost impossible with other kinds of treatments. The changed attitude once one is touched makes him or her to recover from a long term depression.

It is believed that the method has ability to cure problems arising from improper digestion. Those individuals with low self-esteem can be cured with the help of Reiki. Once on the application one becomes confident and is able to perform duties with all the required confidence. The method is of great importance especially to those who had a recent surgery as it helps in immediate recovery.

Recovery symptoms are, running noses and the cold feeling. The occurrence of frequent running nose is very common to those who have undergone the kind of treatment. This shows that one is on the recovery path. At the same time, very low temperature feeling even though environmental temperatures are high is a clear evidence that one is heading to the right direction.

Another recovery symptom is when one begins to diarrhea. High levels of fatigue and a feeling of tiredness is another factor that someone is on the recovery path. Different people experience different symptoms when recovering.
