The Benefits Colon Cleanse Confers

By Donald Cox

Detoxification of body systems should be done on a regular basis. The large gut is one of the organs that has to be cleansed regularly. This is either done through irrigation of the gut or by use of products that are either inserted through the rectal route or taken orally. These products can be easily obtained as over the counter drugs from pharmacies. They include herbal teas, magnesium, enzymes, enemas and so on. There are a number of benefits colon cleanse provides.

Irrigation has been shown to achieve the best results. A hydro-therapist uses water under low pressure to empty large gut contents. Abdominal massage is usually performed to help empty remove any residual contents. This process should be avoided in cases where the large gut is diseased. Such include tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, recent surgery and diverticulitis among others.

Constipation is the commonest cause of indigestion. As the process of indigestion is hampered further, more constipation occurs leading to a vicious cycle. Infective organisms also colonize the gut as they feed on the waste products. Regular cleansing of the gut ensures that the gut remains regular and enhances digestion. Energy levels are increased and the immune system enhanced as a result.

Some of the foods that we consume contain harmful toxins that have potentially harmful effects on the body. Fortunately, most of them are removed from the body by the liver and the colon. In case of constipation and indigestion, however, there is increased absorption of these toxins (due to increased transit time) and a higher chance of developing cancerous and precancerous conditions. Some of them include polyps, cysts and colon cancers.

Another important benefit is that of weight loss. Low fiber in foods contribute a great deal to constipation. The waste associated with these foods tends to stay longer within the large gut and getting rid of them is usually very difficult. Satiety feedback mechanisms are suppressed which means that one is more likely to eat more than they need to. Cleansing and increased the amount of fiber in the diet helps to jump start the process of weight loss.

Another important role of detoxification is that it increases overall body energy and alertness. A poorly functioning gut makes it difficult for the absorption of vitamins that are needed for alertness. Cleansing is focused on getting rid of toxins and mucous that hamper this process. In general, undergoing this process increases the general body energy.

The process helps in the maintenance of an optimal blood pH. The pH is a product of different ions. Many of these ions are absorbed in the large gut. When the process of digestion is impaired, the acidity of the blood is increased. The functioning of many body systems is affected and one tends to have general body malaise. The entry of bacterial and fungal organisms through an inflamed gut (during constipation) compounds this problem.

There are a number of risks that are associated with the process. These include, among others, mineral imbalance, dizziness (due to dehydration), cramps, nausea, depletion of normal flora in the gut and in rare cases, bowel perforation. The risk of these complications increases with increasing frequency of the procedure. In the hands of a well trained professional, these complications are very rare.
